a year in review...

It's hard to know how to begin our family blog... so much has happened in the past year that I would like to do a little update on what we've been doing:

We were engaged a year ago. Rick proposed by making a nice Cambodian dinner and taking me around, blindfolded, to 5 special spots where we first met each other, had our first study date, our first real date, etc. At each location I had to guess where we were based on a little gift he gave me that represented the event. At the last spot, he gave me a ring!

We enjoyed every moment of being engaged and spent most of our time studying together! We took a semester of Physics and a year's worth of Organic Chemistry together, which we thought was a great way to get to know each other.

We also ran a marathon together! We had actually signed up for the same marathon before we started dating, so it was convenient to make the event a joint effort. Rick finished the race about 20 minutes before I did and walked back to re-run the last half mile with me. It was a great experience!

December 28, 2006 was the big wedding day!! We were married in the Washington, D.C. temple and were so happy to have so many of our family and friends able to attend. We spent half our honeymoon at Bethany Beach and the other in Washington D.C. At the beach, we did the Polar Bear Swim on New Years' Day!!

Rick served as the Program Director of last summer's Special Olympics of Utah. He did a great job, and it was a lot of fun to watch and get to know all of the athletes!

Our dear friend Virginia passed away in August. We'd been visiting her as our Hospice patient for a little over a year and shared many special times with her and her husband, Kent.

I graduated from BYU in August. A BS in Nutritional Science, Magna Cum Laude, and pregnant!

Recently I reached the mark of being home from my mission as long as I was on it! And this cute family who I met on my mission was just sealed in the temple.

We were able to go visit Rick's parents in the Dominican Republic, where they are serving a mission. We enjoyed going to the temple there, playing lots of tennis, seeing historical sights like Christopher Columbus' house, and playing on the beach! This picture is when we were on our way to snorkel!!!

We are now in the midst of Rick's applying to medical school. We are also very happy to be expecting our first baby!! Here's the ultrasound of the little guy, due December 9th.
