What's in a name???

I am having major second thoughts about the name choice for our baby boy, due in ONE MONTH AND ONE DAY!!
We've called him Carson for about 8 months now, we both really like the name, and I've even personalized things like his baby journal with the name Carson. HOWEVER, I keep feeling more and more like the name is just too popular! It was ranked 87th according to last year's social security index. And in 2003 it had already peaked at 90th. (See http://www.babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html) It seems like everyone has a nephew or cousin that was just named Carson. I do NOT want him to have 3 other Carsons in his kindergarten class and on his soccer team!!
My second choice was Easton. The hubby doesn't really like that one though.
The other name I have been thinking about a lot is Weston. (I guess I have a strange thing for cardinal direcitons.) It only ranked 380th last year. And, an added bonus is that Weston is a family name on Rick's side; it was his great uncle, who was a good, honest, hard working farmer.

It's just very hard to break out of the habit of calling him Carson!!
Please help!! I'm sure I will seriously consider and over-analyze all comments posted with regards to the baby's name. :)

Lots of people don't pick a final name till they actually have the baby — so don't stress yet! Carson is pretty common. You could save that name for a few years down the road when it becomes less popular maybe?

I think Carson is a cute name, but it is pretty popular right now. I agree with Ashley wait until you see the little guy before you make a final decision.

I LOVE Carson!!! And it seems like that is already his name. I know it is sort of common, but if it counts for anything, Burke's family (who has 5 million cousins/grandkids) has an Easton and a Weston and no Carson. I think you just need to pick what you like and not worry about other kids with the same name. There will always be someone he shares a name with. But definitely wait till you see him to finally pick a name. We totally thought Ryder was going to be Bennett...but that's not what he looked like to us! You'll know when you see him. I can't wait!!!

One more thing. :) There are a bunch of names that are really really popular in Utah...but not as much everywhere else. It seems like Carson is used a lot out there...but if you are not going to be living there forever, I don't think it's such a common name everywhere else (I haven't heard of any Carson's in MI or Chicago).

I agree that you should ultimately go with what you like, not worrying about what other people are choosing, and I like all three of your considerations. But I do think Easton is becoming pretty popular - I know at least two Eastons under age 2 - if that is a big deterrent to you. I like Weston a lot, and I haven't met any Westons yet. (If you don't use it, maybe we will?) Good luck!

I love that you mentioned his future soccer team! That's my favorite thing about this whole blog so far!

Weston creeps me out. I have a REALLY creppy cousin named Weston. I don't know if I would be able to talk to your child if he was named Weston. ;) I love CARSON!!! I also like Easton. Just no Weston please.
